The Chairman of the Black Satellites committee, Oko-Nikoi Dzani, yesterday gave GHC10,000 as seed money towards donations expected from the public for the team.
The committee, in collaboration with Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) and Agricultural Development Bank ( ADB), has also opened an account into which monetary contrubutions for the team can be deposited.
At the official launch of the Presidential committee set up to collect all donations to the team at the Ohene Djan Stadium in Accra, Mr Dzani urged Ghanaians to appreciate the victory the team had brought to the country by rewarding them.
He outlined the functions of the seven-member committee as receiving donations on behalf of the team, advising on disbursement and recommending to the Government the nature of reward for the team.
The chairman, who made the donation on behalf of NDK Financial Services, said they were also in discussions with MTN to allow individuals to make contributions through calls and text messages to a yet-to-be announced number, with the proceeds going to the team.
The Ghana Football Associaton (GFA) President, Kwesi Nyantakyi, lauded the initiative, saying he had received calls from many Ghanaians enquiring about how they could contribute to the team.
He said the players and officials had become national heroes, and their achievement was worth celebrating for a long time, adding that there were also calls from Ghanaians all over the world demanding to see the trophy.
